Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to join?
What is "the candidate process"?
Here are some answers to some FAQ's by sisters in our chapter!
To be a member of the Beta Xi chapter, you must be enrolled in an approved University of Florida band ensemble and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Active members must be full-time students at UF and be in good financial standing with the chapter by paying membership dues. After receiving a bid, candidates for membership must go through an 8-week membership education program before being officially initiated into the sorority.

- Jessie Babb, Beta Xi President
The candidate process is an 8-10 week process to explore what it is like to be a sister of Tau Beta Sigma. It involves weekly meetings that are arranged by the candidate's own schedules, service with the sisters, getting to know the sisters, and fun activities to bond with fellow candidates and learn about the University of Florida.

How can i become a candidate?
To become a candidate, it is necessary to attend Invitational Tea and receive a bid from Tau Beta Sigma. We invite you to join us at our recruitment events to learn more about our organization: who we are and what we do!
- Marlena LaRubbio, Vice President of Membership
if Tau beta sigma is a sorority, why are there males in it?
At the University of Florida, both Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi are Co-Ed, meaning any gender can join our organizations. All members of Tau Beta Sigma are referred to as "sisters" and all members of Kappa Kappa Psi are referred to as "brothers". Not all chapters at every university follow this guideline, but it is a common practice.

- Kaylyn Joesten, Parliamentarian
what is kappa kappa psi?
Kappa Kappa Psi is our Brother Fraternity, who share similar values to our sorority. We have our own differences with our own organization's national programs, leadership, and history. Our chapters are run independently of one another, and each chapter has its own distinct traditions. Beta Xi's service and Alpha Eta's service to the bands varies as well. Our chapters work together to achieve similar goals. You can find Alpha Eta's website here.

What service projects does Tau Beta sigma do?
Our day-to-day service projects include chair setups, hosting concert receptions, distributing Gator Band gear, and passing out fruit at halftime. We also have bigger projects that happen less frequently, like performing for senior citizens, hemming uniforms, and more!

- Emily Finch, Vice President of Service
IS there a monetary requirement?
According to www.tbsigma.org, the national website for Tau Beta Sigma, newly initiated members have to pay $250, not including optional payments, such as chapter polos, fabric for making t-shirts, or other memorabilia. After initiation, they will pay $145 yearly to be submitted to the National Headquarters to maintain their active status in the sorority. At the treasurer's discretion, payment plans are available. Please contact the treasurer for further questions or concerns.
